Dust|box project emerged (unnamed at that point) around 1999 in the minds of Gish and Dust. Hybernated in the shadow of our other projects (namely : ios) until the summer of 2003 when during a garage jam session their ideas started to focus. Weird, dusty-like waveforms (which were a product of poor recording quality to begin with) became the base for a name they've acquired.
